In our new film, artist Trevor Paglen discusses his first-ever Web3 series, titled PRELUDES. The project comprises 250 unique, generative, and musical NFTs for which Paglen drew inspiration from the work of John Cage and Iannis Xenakis, pioneers of algorithmically generated music, as well as composers Michael Haydn, Johannes Brahms, and Olivier Messiaen, who developed systems for encoding messages into their music. Each NFT’s original musical composition is paired with a visual score that draws on 20th century innovations in notating electronic and experimental sounds. Interactive and experiential, Paglen’s new NFTs are loaded with secrets for collectors to uncover, decipher, and utilize in other parts of the artist’s new multifaceted project spanning Web3, “speculative reality,” and IRL experiences.
PRELUDES launches Wednesday, April 5, 12 PM EDT, as part of a multifaceted partnership between Pace Verso and Art Blocks.
