AfroWarriors is an innovative digital art project that reimagines African mythology through the lens of artificial intelligence (AI). It showcases a collection of digital artworks representing supposed descendants of Yoruba deities and goddesses, now residing in a new realm known as Hidden City. This project integrates Web3 technology and features non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which can be explored on Huge.com.
Background
The initiative was spearheaded by Idris Busari, who initially aimed to create a documentary about the deity Sango. Despite years of research and attempts to secure funding, Busari faced challenges in realizing his vision. The rise of AI and NFTs provided a fresh perspective, allowing the project to pivot towards futuristic animated storytelling.
On September 6, 2025, the first clip of AfroWarriors was released, and just a week later, on September 14, 2025, the inaugural batch of AfroWarriors NFTs and Web3 domains were minted on the blockchain, with plans for additional batches to follow.
Features
Each AfroWarrior Profile Picture (PFP) NFT serves a dual purpose as both a piece of art and a Web3 domain, depicting superhero descendants of African deities and goddesses. These NFTs not only hold artistic value but also come with a range of hidden benefits that will unfold as the project develops.
Historical Context
AfroWarriors stands out as a pioneering initiative in the African art landscape, utilizing NFTs to narrate African stories and reshape the art world. Originally conceived as the Profile Picture Project, it was minted on Unstoppable Domains. The project highlights NFTs’ capacity to watermark a variety of artworks without needing a physical signature. As of now, a total of 215 unique AfroWarriors NFTs have been minted on OpenSea.
