DOJ CHARGES 6 Scammers in Fake NFT Investment Scheme

The U.S. Department of Justice is taking action against an alleged international cryptocurrency fraud operation involving fake NFT investments and deceptive online dating profiles.

According to the DOJ announcement, six people based in Africa have been charged in connection with schemes allegedly linked to criminal operations in Southeast Asia and China. Investigators say the suspects used fabricated dating profiles to build trust with American victims before directing them to fraudulent investment websites.

The alleged operation involved malicious websites designed to drain cryptocurrency wallets after victims connected them. Authorities also allege that proceeds were transferred through accounts associated with Chinese networks.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the charges as part of broader efforts to combat cryptocurrency investment fraud. The DOJ’s Scam Center Strike Force has also pursued efforts to restrain cryptocurrency connected to suspected scam operations, with more than $1 billion reportedly restrained in related enforcement actions.

The case highlights the risks of online investment offers, fake NFT platforms, and romance-based financial manipulation. Authorities continue to focus on identifying international networks and recovering assets connected to alleged fraud.
